Why We Seek Life Purpose
Life can pass us by rather quickly. This realization becomes the most vivid when we think back on special moments and memories like holidays, birthdays, and milestones where we are reminded of how months and years go by in the blink of an eye. How many times have you seen a photo or video of yourself that you saved on your phone and then you look at the date in complete shock? The moment feels familiar and close like it happened a few months ago maybe until you realize a year or more has gone by. We often hear people say that “time flies”.
Many of us lead very fast-paced lives and oftentimes, it is our hectic schedules and busy routines that stop us from soaking in the present moment. We live a good part of our lives planning for later, for tomorrow, or for next week rather than enjoying right now and this is much of the reason why time can seem to pass too quickly. Have you ever returned home at the end of a long work day and reflected on what you did with your time and how you spent the last 10 hours of your day? Maybe you were hunched over in front of a computer screen or resolving issues during numerous phone calls. Maybe you were filling out forms, answering emails, or doing work where you have to tend to the public or answer to a supervisor.
In these instances of awareness, you might feel that knot in the pit of your stomach when it hits you that a lot of your day-to-day activities lack meaning. You think that if today were your last day on Earth, would all those emails you answered really matter? Would meeting deadlines make any difference? Is it worth the effort and work you put forth to please others?
We seek life purpose when all of these thoughts, questions, and doubts flood our awareness; when we realize the rapid passage of time; when we notice our mental absence from important and meaningful moments; and when we truly look at what we do all day and wonder, “What’s the point of all this, anyway?” Meaning differs from person to person, therefore what’s meaningful for you might be completely unimportant for someone else. For example having a successful career may be meaningful to some women, when others prefer putting all their energy into being stay at home mothers. Neither is right or wrong, but just a matter of personal preference. Try to figure out what things are meaningful to you an consider if you are doing those things now?
The point is that if you have these moments of acute awareness and realization about the meaning of life and why you are living it the way you do, it’s possible that you could be struggling to find meaning in what you do. You, my friend may be looking for your true life purpose; this is just the beginning.
When we are in self discovery mode, sometimes it is important to use resources that can assist us. My go to resources are books and the internet. I use these tools to guide me in self discovery. There are a few books that I recommend that helped me immensely that I will share with you.
Here are my top 5 that are must have books for exploring life purpose:
We develop the urge to discover our life purpose because we want our everyday lives to have that important sense of meaning. Discovering life purpose means doing things that matter; initiating change; influencing the lives of others; and doing work that fulfills you and truly brings you joy and satisfaction. I am in the process of realizing my purpose as I get closer to my 40s, the joy of discovery is set on fire and will not be extinguished until I have initiated change and influenced the lives of others.

Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people consider worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks Sile Niven Isahella

I do enjoy the way you have presented this challenge and it does provide me a lot of fodder for thought. However, because of what I have seen, I only wish as the feedback stack on that people today keep on point and not embark upon a tirade regarding the news du jour. Still, thank you for this excellent piece and even though I can not really agree with this in totality, I value your viewpoint. Blondell Chrotoem Tai
